Chemin de Fer ABC’s – Part One
The basic concept of the game is to be given cards adding up to 21. Each player is assigned 2 cards. When a blackjack player is given a 9 or lower value card and an Ace they’ve been dealt a soft hand. When the gambler is dealt no Ace cards it is known as a hard hand. Once the cards have been handed to all players at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, each blackjack player is given the opportunity to make one of six actions:
Taking another card (Hit): When a player says "hit me" the croupier will give him another card, if the addition of that card causes the value of the hand to exceed twenty one the blackjack player will have lost and that’s the end of the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to 21 the gambler will be the winner and if the value of the hand hasn’t yet reached 21 they’re still in the game.
Keeping the hand you have been given: If a blackjack player is happy with the hand they’ll stand. As soon as this has happened the croupier will display his/her hand and the blackjack player who has accumulated 21 or the closet to 21 will win.
Doubling Down: A player might ask to double down which doubles the wager they have made. Once you’ve taken this procedure you can only receive one more card. The details of doubling down are usually specified by the blackjack table or casino rules so before competing be certain you’re comfortable with the house established rules. If you’re betting at a web-based betting house this is normally quite simple.
